Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has secured a second term in office after emerging victorious in the state’s governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in a closely watched contest.
According to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji recorded 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The victory marks another significant milestone in Adeleke’s political career. He first became Governor of Osun State in 2022 after defeating the then-incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.
Ahead of Saturday’s election, the contest had generated considerable political interest, with Adeleke facing a strong challenge from the APC and its candidate, Oyebamiji. The campaign period witnessed intense political mobilisation, realignments and competing claims by the major parties over their chances of victory.
Adeleke’s re-election campaign focused heavily on his administration’s record in infrastructure and other areas of governance, while his supporters maintained that his performance and grassroots popularity would secure him another term. With the declaration of the results, Adeleke is set to continue as Governor of Osun State for another four-year term.
